I've got a confession to make. Authors are people too. We laugh. We cry. We dance. We have lives outside of our made up worlds. I'd love to escape to the Faerie Realm or the Shadow Realm, but without the ability to portal or go back in time, I'm stuck in this one. And my life outside of my created worlds is complicated and messy, and even more so for the foreseeable future.
I'm working on finishing Kingdom of Shadow and Blood, the final book of Silver Fae Games, but I can't make any promises. Life took an unexpected but not completely by surprise turn again, and my goal is to finish the book, but I have to take life one day at a time. I was able to change the Amazon deadline, but I can only do that once--so cross your fingers that I will finish it in time.
We all need good stuff in our life (and books are always good stuff,) so I've got an excerpt from Kingdom of Shadows and Blood. But first, I have a request to make, take care of yourself physically, as well as, mentally. Don't keep all the crap in. Let it out by talking to a friend, partner, therapist, or other licensed professional. We don't talk about the importance of mental health enough, and that's a shame. Every person possesses their own demons, and sometimes, it gets tiring fighting them by yourself. You need a support network. A team to get through all the stuff. Of course, I wish we all had a Scott and Ryan, a Christian, Di, Frank, Coda, and Ben, but sadly, those characters don't exist outside of my own imagination--though I am fortunate to have a lot of family and friends. WARNING CYBER HUG COMING: While I am not a licensed professional, I give the best, I'm talking the biggest, most ginormous cyber hugs, and I'm giving one to you all right now.......................
I read somewhere that it takes 30 seconds for the feel-good dopamines in the brain to trigger from a hug, so each of those periods counts as a second. Take in all the good stuff, and let go of the bad.
One more thing, I was hoping to have some updates for you about selling direct along with merchandise, but current world events have delayed my designer. Still coming soon...
But, that doesn't mean, I can't share with you an excerpt from Kingdom of Shadows and Blood, Silver Fae Games Book 3.
EXCLUSIVE EXCERPT FROM KINGDOM OF SHADOWS & BLOOD
Chapter 1
Starr
Dead. Christian can’t be dead. And I wasn’t the one that killed him.
I wasn’t.
Just because you think something doesn’t make it true, J’Tia, the Pixie Oracle, said in my head.
I couldn’t argue with that logic, although I wanted to.
I dropped to my knees beside his still frame. He hadn’t moved since he fell. Why didn’t he move?
Because he’s dead, and you killed him, my conscience said to me this time.
Treadwell, the Game Master, had all but congratulated me on killing Christian, my Destined Mate, my everything.
“Envy and Wrath are difficult Deadly Sins to overcome,” he had said. “Even our most brilliant stars can fall victim to them.”
His words were an attack at my preferred name, Starr Bishop. As if to suggest that even she, the darling of the Games, fell to the horrors of the final two Deadly Sins. What else should the people expect of a princess? A Silverlain no less. But I wasn’t just a Silverlain, was I?
My chest rose as power fueled my core. I was a Silverwood, the rightful ruler of the Faerie Realm. It was the reason Nagel chose to follow me. It was the name J’Tia said before Sir Kenneth flew me to the Summer Solstice portal. I still didn’t know what being a Silverwood meant, but I felt its truth buzzing in my veins.
Magick pulsed through my fingers. I pressed my palms together and rubbed them back and forth. Heat erupted within them and continued to grow. My hands drifted apart as the energy expanded into a ball. A life giving ball.
“What are you doing?” Sir Kenneth whispered. “You don’t possess the power to return life to the dead. No one does.”
I ignored his words. There was no room for doubt. Only room for possibility. I could do it. I believed it with all my being.
Energy swirled around my hands.
Sir Kenneth cursed. My lips curled. Even without talking I could provoke the Captain of the Shadow Knights. I felt the tingle of his magick as he cast a spell seeking to hide us from the Queen, King, along with the rest of the viewers. For while they sat safe at home watching our completion of the Third Level of the Summer Solstice Games, the rest of us suffered cruel fates. Even when we naively believed my grandmother had conceded to our requests for food and rest and had allowed us time to recover from the Second Level, she tricked us into entering the cruel, punishing Third Level instead.
“No rest for the wicked,” Frank had said, and he was right.
The Queen’s quest for the Final Artifact provided no room for rest between the levels. There were four more to complete before the Summer Solstice Games came to an end at Lughnasadh. Four more levels to test our resolve, our abilities, our life force. Four more levels until I acquired the Final Artifact and gave it to her.
Just because you think something doesn’t make it true. J’Tia’s words rang true for the Queen’s desires too.
My grandmother didn’t realize I was nothing without Christian. Together we were Awen, The Chosen, who would unite the realms or tear them apart. I once believed we’d do the latter, but now, I knew (at least I hoped) we’d succeed in uniting them, but I couldn’t do it alone. Not without Christian, my Destined Mate.
I pulled my palms apart. The energy stuck to them as it expanded. I pictured my next steps and what would happen as a result. It will be so, so it will be.
I glanced down at Christian’s still frame. I would not be daunted by impossibility. Nothing was impossible when it came to love.
I dropped my hands to his chest. The energy ball hovered above him, waiting for me to give the command. I closed my eyes and focused on what would happen. I believed it with all my being.
“Live. It will be so, so it will be,” I murmured and pressed my hands into his chest.
The life-giving energy sunk into his still frame. I called on Water, Air, Fire, Earth, and Spirit and commanded them to give him life.
I envisioned the elements entering his body, working their way through his veins and muscles, his blood and heart. The shadows of Envy and Wrath that once possessed me leaked out of him and back into the ground. I thanked Earth for taking my Deadly Sins unsure why once again I fell victim to the darkness.
The Greater Demon is powerful, J’Tia whispered.
But I am more powerful. I am a Silverwood.
Yes, you are.
I envisioned life entering Christian’s soul and spreading out into his heart and his limbs.
“Breathe,” I commanded him.
His body shuddered as he gasped for breath.
HAVE YOU READ A CURSE OF SILVER RUIN YET? THE SERIES STARTER CAN BE READ AS A STAND ALONE BUT IT'S SO MUCH BETTER IF YOU START WITH THRONE OF SILVER: SILVER FAE BOOK 1 (LINKS AT BOTTOM OF EMAIL)
Meet Starr Bishop. Or is it Jessalyn Silverlain?
Depends who you ask and whether I’m under the Greater Demon’s possession or not.
Everyone refuses to believe the truth—I follow Master willingly. No spells, no curses, no magick, unless, of course, drinking demon blood counts. Then maybe...
No, I’m in full possession of myself and ready to show off my newfound Silver Fae abilities in the Summer Solstice Games. I’ll need to pass through seven levels of the Games, or as my grandmother, Queen Evelyn, calls them, The Seven Hells. No pressure
or anything.
Especially with an all-powerful artifact as the prize. The Queen wants it, Master deserves it, and I need all the help I can get to find it. But no emotional attachments—or at least that’s the plan.
Until I see Christian. Those blue eyes, sexy muscles, and dreamy smile remind me of a love once shared. A life once led. A wolf bite is fatal to a Fae. Is a Fae bite ifatal to a wolf? Guess we’ll find out.
Let the training for the Games begin.
